Comfortable Wait in Heat and Cold… Nine 'Climate Shelter Smart Bus Stops' Installed
Suwon Special City (Mayor Lee Jae-jun) has installed nine climate shelter smart bus stops in the areas of Gosaeok-dong, Homaesil-dong, Omokcheon-dong, and Tap-dong in Gwonseon-gu as part of the 'Carbon Neutral Green City Development Project' being pursued through a competitive grant from the Ministry of Climate Energy and Environment.
The smart bus stops are improved facilities designed to enable citizens to use public transportation safely and comfortably while responding to abnormal climate conditions such as extreme heat, cold, and fine dust. Four expandable exterior models and five basic models were installed.
The bus stops are equipped with functions including △solar power generation △heating and cooling systems △fine dust measurement and air purification △heated seats △climate information displays △public transportation information provision △mobile phone charging △public Wi-Fi. Real-time closed-circuit television (CCTV) and emergency bells were also installed to enhance safety.
Electricity generated from solar power generation equipment is used to operate bus stop facilities including heating and cooling systems, electronic signboards, and LED lighting. Suwon City plans to reduce energy use and improve the public transportation environment to expand the foundation for carbon-neutral practices.
By 2027, Suwon City plans to link the smart bus stops with the 'Suwon City Carbon Neutral Green City Integrated Platform'. Using the platform, the city will be able to check energy conditions such as solar power generation and electricity consumption as well as facility operation information at a glance, and will systematically manage the smart bus stops.
A Suwon City official said, "The climate shelter smart bus stop is a citizens' life-oriented carbon-neutral facility that helps citizens respond to climate change in their daily lives," and added, "We will continue to expand eco-friendly and smart city infrastructure that citizens can directly experience."
