Jangheung-myeon Sports Association to Host Uidaeryeong (Seokguuram Path) Walking Event on the 19th to Promote Citizen Health and Uidaeryeong

Yangju City announced that the Jangheung-myeon Sports Association will host the '2026 Jangheung-myeon Uidaeryeong (Seokguuram Path) Walking Event' on the 19th to promote citizen health and publicize Uidaeryeong.

The event will gather at the Gyohyeon Exploration Support Center in Uidaeryeong, Jangheung-myeon at 9:30 a.m., receive advance briefings, and then walk approximately 2.3 km from the Gyohyeon Exploration Support Center to the Training Ground starting at 10:00 a.m. This will be followed by a ceremony and celebration performances.

Uidaeryeong is a mountain pass connecting Gyohyeon-ri in Jangheung-myeon, Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province and Ui-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, passing between Bukhansan and Dobongsan mountains. The Uidaeryeong path features a flat terrain throughout, allowing anyone to walk it without much difficulty, and is home to Seokguuram, a beautiful traditional temple.

The Uidaeryeong path was opened as an unpaved road by the U.S. military during the Korean War for transportation, but was closed after being used as an infiltration route for North Korean armed guerrillas during the January 21 Incident in 1968.

Subsequently, from October 1, 2009, the path was opened to the public through advance reservations. With recent demands for permanent opening of Uidaeryeong, since March 2024, anyone can use it without reservations on weekdays except during the peak season (September to November). Starting from 2026, residents of nearby areas (Yangju City, Dobong-gu, Gangbuk-gu) can make one reservation per year and conveniently visit without additional reservations during weekends and peak seasons.

Kim Seong-jae, chairman of the Jangheung-myeon Sports Association, said, "Through this event, I hope to promote community harmony, health, and the beauty of Uidaeryeong," and added, "I hope many people can share a meaningful and wonderful time together."
