Suwon Establishes Four-Year Plan for 'Completion of Suwon's Grand Transformation' Focused on Public Welfare, Coexistence, and Research City
Suwon Metropolitan City (Mayor Lee Jae-jun) has established the vision for the Ninth Term of the Democratic Mayor as 'Completion of Suwon's Grand Transformation,' and set three major city administration goals: 'Public Welfare City for Living Stability,' 'Cultural Tourism Coexistence City,' and 'Advanced Science Research City.'
On the 10th, Suwon City held the 'Final Report Session of the Suwon Grand Transformation Promotion Group' at the city hall conference room and presented the vision, principles, and goals for the Ninth Term. The report session was attended by Mayor Lee Jae-jun of Suwon Metropolitan City, and committee members including Kim Sung-jin, director of the Suwon City Research Institute, and Hong Eun-hwa, standing co-chair of the Suwon Civil Society Organization Council, who serve as co-directors of the Suwon Grand Transformation Promotion Group.
The Suwon Grand Transformation Promotion Group, launched on June 22, operates three divisions: Half-Price Living Public Welfare City, Cultural Tourism Hub City, and Advanced Science Research City, establishing policy directions for the Ninth Term and formulating a four-year city administration plan. The promotion group is composed of field experts, governance institutions and organizations, and members of civil society organizations.
The Suwon Grand Transformation Promotion Group reviewed the Ninth Term campaign pledges and citizen proposals, gathered civic opinions, and deliberated to establish city administration goals and 60 major city administration tasks to realize those goals.
City administration tasks for creating a Public Welfare City for Living Stability include 25 items such as △promoting free bus service and bus fare subsidies △expanding close-contact care support △creating pleasant urban environment including Saebbit Garden △developing specialized streets along Palbit-gil △expanding operations of veteran civil servant divisions △converting Saebbit Talk-Talk to an AI citizen deliberation forum.
Tasks for creating a Cultural Tourism Coexistence City include 17 items such as △promoting Jeongjo Grand King's Royal Procession K-Culture Road Global Festival △fostering high-quality accommodation tourism infrastructure △activating commercial areas linked with regional currency △supporting local cultural and artistic creation activities.
Tasks for creating an Advanced Science Research City include 18 items such as △establishing the Suwon Global Advanced Science Research City and Suwon Economic Free Zone △building a startup ecosystem for advanced industries such as AI △urban space transformation through relocation of Suwon Military Airport △residential environment innovation through rapid renovation of aging residential areas △establishing Suwon as a metropolitan railroad hub city.
Mayor Lee Jae-jun of Suwon Metropolitan City said, "I am grateful to the Suwon Grand Transformation Promotion Group for carefully designing the direction that Suwon City will pursue in the Ninth Term," and added, "I hope the members of the Suwon Grand Transformation Promotion Group will continue to monitor whether the city administration goals and tasks are being promoted well and provide feedback."
