"Gomsaek Chanran - The Moment Industry Becomes Art" Planned Exhibition Held

Gomsaek Museum in Suwon will hold the planned exhibition "Gomsaek Chanran - The Moment Industry Becomes Art" in its special exhibition hall through October 11.

This is the first art collaboration exhibition jointly organized by Gomsaek Museum and Suwon Industrial Complex. Five companies from Suwon Industrial Complex and 10 artists will participate, showcasing approximately 50 works including paintings, installations, photographs, textile crafts, and digital videos.

From July to August, the artists visited the production facilities of participating companies to observe manufacturing processes and industrial materials, and collected discarded materials to express production sites and the time of labor through art.

The exhibition is organized around three themes: "Into the Production Site," which captures the work site from artists' perspectives; "Beyond Utility," which reinterprets discarded materials as art works; and "Unfamiliar Yet Intriguing," which documents the artwork creation process.

An exhibition titled "My Work Tools," which was directly drawn by industrial complex employees depicting their work tools, will also be displayed. Industrial materials such as printed circuit boards (PCBs) used by participating companies are applied to both artwork description panels and framed documentary photographs, incorporating industrial materials into the exhibition space design.

During the exhibition period, conversations with artists and citizen participation programs utilizing industrial materials will also be held.

Exhibition hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The museum is closed every Monday and admission is free. The exhibition opening ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on September 17.

Lee Chang-se, director of Gomsaek Museum, said, "I hope the industrial complex will expand beyond a production space to become a space where artists, citizens, and workers together create regional culture."
