"Youth Competency Ladder"…Son Seong-ik Provincial Councillor Announces Candidacy for Democratic Party Gyeonggi Provincial Youth Committee Chair
Provincial Councillor Son Seong-ik officially announced his candidacy for the Democratic Party Gyeonggi Provincial Youth Committee Chair election. Councillor Son completed his candidate registration submission at the Democratic Party Gyeonggi Provincial headquarters on the morning of the 21st and began his full-fledged campaign.
In his candidacy announcement, Councillor Son stated, "I spent 15 years working at a company and engaged in union activities, and I experienced both the pain of electoral defeat and victory by running in two city council elections, which led me to this position," and emphasized, "By balancing work and politics, I understand the concerns and realities of young party members preparing for the future more deeply than anyone else."
Councillor Son particularly stressed, "My first party activity with the Democratic Party began in the Youth Committee," and said, "Just as the Youth Committee allowed me, an ordinary young office worker, to dream of becoming a politician and helped realize that dream, I will now become a solid ladder for our party's young members to fully develop their capabilities."
Councillor Son noted, "Our party already has many young people with expertise in various fields including policy, economy, welfare, IT, and culture," and emphasized, "I will build a structural foundation where young people's brilliant ideas become actual policies and budgets, and lead to municipal ordinances."
To realize this, he outlined three core policy pledges: △promoting regular meetings with young party members from Gyeonggi Province's 31 cities and counties △establishing a 'youth policy network' to mutually share and develop outstanding policies between regions, and △establishing a new 'Policy Academy' to support young party members' practical experience.
Councillor Son appealed for support, saying, "I will create a platform where young party members can directly experience how local assemblies work, propose policies, and interact with senior politicians," and "I will create a Youth Committee that becomes a solid ladder for prepared young people to prepare for their own future paths in their respective fields and grow."
Councillor Son Seong-ik has held numerous key positions within the party including Vice Chairman of the Democratic Party's Policy Committee, member of the Youth Policy Research Institute, and spokesman of the National Youth Committee, as well as Deputy Spokesperson of the Gyeonggi Provincial Party, Director of Publicity and Communication, Director of Education and Training, and Youth Committee Chair of Paju City (District A). He served as a Paju City Councillor in 2022 and has been serving as a Gyeonggi Provincial Councillor since 2026.
