Shin Gye-yong, Gwacheon Mayor, Commits to Successful Completion and Settlement of Knowledge Information Town

Gwacheon City held a "task force meeting" on the 21st at the DeTech Tower Future Hall to ensure the successful completion of the Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town public housing district and the stable settlement of residents.

The meeting was attended by Gwacheon City, representatives of multi-family housing residents (prospective and current), and related organizations including the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), the project operator, to discuss the status of living infrastructure development in the Knowledge Information Town and major grievance measures.

In particular, Gwacheon City has been steadily implementing Phase 2 infrastructure projects to address key tasks for improving pedestrian environments and enhancing living conditions. Following the final reflection of plans for new underground public passages through the revision of the district plan for the Knowledge Information Town public housing district, the city is currently proceeding without delays in preliminary design consultations to diversify the entrances to underground public passages.

The cultural and sports facility that broke ground in November 2025 is progressing smoothly with a target completion date of July 2027. Additionally, to ease traffic congestion in the Galhyeon Three-Way Intersection area and distribute traffic, "Gwacheon-daero 12-ga-gil" between S1 and S2 blocks is scheduled to open in October.

Furthermore, regarding the request to create "eco-friendly sound barriers" instead of installing large soundproof walls in the section adjacent to Gwacheon-daero to secure views and improve urban aesthetics, the city requested thorough review from technical and administrative perspectives, considering not only methods to meet legal noise standards but also urban landscape comprehensively. In response, the project operator agreed to re-conduct noise analysis on National Highway 47 and re-analyze objective data.

Based on these Phase 2 achievements, Gwacheon City plans to inspect the final stages of infrastructure construction while focusing administrative resources in close collaboration with the Korea Land and Housing Corporation and related organizations on the remaining Phase 3 major infrastructure projects. Key projects include △Gwacheon-daero reduction construction △underground public passage completion △new Gwacheon Information Town Station △neighborhood park 3 development △Gwacheon Knowledge 3 Middle School main construction and others.

Mayor Shin Gye-yong stated, "Although public inconvenience remains due to ongoing park landscaping and infrastructure construction, we are continuously communicating with related organizations and steadily resolving major issues." He added, "We will fully utilize the city's administrative capabilities in the handover process and complete the remaining Phase 3 core infrastructure projects without any delays, so that Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town can establish itself as an eco-friendly, advanced exemplary city."
