Hwaseong City Explores Possibilities for Exchange and Cooperation with Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Hwaseong Special City (Mayor Jung Myung-geun) visited Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from September 21 to 23 to explore possibilities for exchange and cooperation with the city.

A delegation led by Hwaseong Special City Vice Mayor Jo Seung-mun met with the Ulaanbaatar mayor, the head of Khangai District, and the head of Bayanzurkh District in succession, exchanging views on directions for inter-city exchange and possibilities for regional cooperation.

This visit came particularly in the context of expanded cooperation between the two countries following President Lee Jae-myung's Mongolia state visit in July and the Korea-Mongolia summit talks, as Hwaseong City sought to develop inter-country cooperation into local government-level exchanges.

Previously, Hwaseong City submitted a cooperation proposal to Ulaanbaatar City in August, proposing exchange and cooperation possibilities in various sectors including △local administration △urban development △economy △education △culture and tourism △and youth affairs.

During this visit, the delegation met with Ulaanbaatar's mayor to introduce Hwaseong City's urban growth process and industrial and administrative conditions, and exchanged views on specific cooperative projects that could be pursued based on mutual interests of the two cities.

They subsequently met with the heads of Khangai District and Bayanzurkh District to share regional characteristics and major policies, and discussed sector-specific cooperation measures including exchanges between districts within Hwaseong Special City.

Hwaseong City plans to comprehensively review the results of this visit, each institution's willingness to exchange, and feasible cooperation areas to examine future directions for advancing exchanges with Ulaanbaatar City and its major districts.

Hwaseong Special City Vice Mayor Jo Seung-mun said, "As the scope of exchange and cooperation between Korea and Mongolia has been widening, it is important for local governments to identify areas of cooperation that can be mutually beneficial," and added, "Based on the possibilities confirmed through this visit, we will work to advance the exchange in phases so that it can lead to substantive cooperation."
