Extending Warm Hearts to Elderly Living Alone as Year Comes to End
Osan City (Mayor Kwak Sang-wook) and the Filial Piety Volunteer Association (Chairman Oh Hwa-bun) delivered kimchi as part of their love-filled side dish support project to elderly residents living alone over two days on the 16th and 17th.
This event was held at the basement cafeteria of Osan City Hall, where approximately 50 members of the Filial Piety Volunteer Association prepared homemade kimchi together. As the year draws to a close and cold weather sets in, the association aimed to support elderly residents who may be isolated and at risk of skipping meals. Using vehicles provided by each neighborhood community center, the volunteers delivered kimchi to approximately 160 elderly residents living alone.
Oh Hwa-bun, chairman of the Filial Piety Volunteer Association, said, "Though it is a small gesture, we hope that our lonely elderly neighbors, like our own parents, can spend a warm winter without worrying about kimchi," and added, "We will continue to hold regular kimchi-making events to stand together with our neighbors."
Meanwhile, the Filial Piety Volunteer Association has previously provided side dishes for elderly residents facing financial difficulties. This year, the association's approximately 50 members have continued their steady volunteer work by preparing side dishes such as pickled cucumbers and seasoned radish greens to deliver to elderly residents, as well as providing lunch meals at senior centers throughout the city.
