Suwon Mayor Yeum Tae-young Addresses Key Issues at New Politics Alliance Leadership Meeting

Suwon Mayor Yeum Tae-young attended the New Politics Democratic Alliance leadership meeting on the morning of the 7th and requested central party support for resolving the crisis in local autonomy and decentralization.

At the meeting, Mayor Yeum stated, "Local autonomy is being shaken to its roots," and pointed out, "The local autonomy development plan reported to the National Assembly by the Local Autonomy Development Committee on the 8th of last month is running counter to the direction of local autonomy by abolishing autonomous districts in metropolitan cities and converting them to appointed positions."

He said, "I request that the New Politics Alliance express its party position on these measures that amount to a return to a centralized power structure."

Additionally, Mayor Yeum urged the party to advance a "decentralization-oriented constitutional revision party platform" in relation to constitutional amendment issues.
