'Republic of Korea AI Content Awards' 20 Finalists Selected from 1,528 Video Entries
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 27th that the international competition for the 'Republic of Korea AI (Artificial Intelligence) Content Awards' to be held at Lotte Cinema Suwon from October 15-16 received 1,528 works from 87 countries and regions worldwide, with 20 works advancing to the finals.
The Republic of Korea AI (Artificial Intelligence) Content Awards is a public competition that discovers film and video content created using generative artificial intelligence and supports exchange among creators and industry professionals. Launched as the 'Republic of Korea International AI Film Festival' in 2024, it was rebranded under its current name starting in 2025. It focuses on introducing content that utilizes AI not merely as a production tool, but as a new creative methodology.
The province held the competition from June 1 through July 22, accepting works in the mid-length film competition, short film competition, and Nam June Paik Special Award categories. This year, in addition to the existing short film category, a new mid-length film competition category was introduced for works of 30 minutes or longer but under 60 minutes, expanding the scope of submissions.
Twenty finalists were selected following the judging process. The province plans to award prizes from among the finalist works, selecting 6 short films, 3 mid-length films, and 2 winners of the Nam June Paik Special Award.
The Nam June Paik Special Award was established this year to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Nam June Paik's passing. The award recognizes works that explore themes related to Nam June Paik, whose experimental practice crossed the boundary between technology and art.
The main event will be held at Lotte Cinema Suwon on October 15 and 16. Over the two days, there will be screenings of finalist works, conversations with audiences (GV), and industry forums that examine AI content production and changes in the industry.
Opportunities to encounter artificial intelligence content at theaters are also expanding. From October 15-28, expanded screenings of finalist works will be held at 31 Lotte Cinema locations across the Seoul and Gyeonggi region.
Kang Ji-suk, Director of the Content Industry Division at Gyeonggi Province, said, "Given that over 1,500 works were submitted from 87 countries and regions worldwide, we can confirm the high level of interest in content creation utilizing artificial intelligence. We hope that through screenings of finalist works and industry forums, creators and audiences can together explore the changes that AI and human collaboration will bring to the content industry."
