Gwangmyeong City and Jecheon City: 18 Years of Friendship… Mayor Park Seung-won Visits Jecheon to Discuss Exchange and Cooperation

Gwangmyeong City (Mayor Park Seung-won) and Jecheon City in North Chungcheong Province (Mayor Lee Sang-cheon) are expanding exchange and cooperation between the two cities based on their 18-year-long friendship.
A delegation of 12 officials from Gwangmyeong City, led by Mayor Park, visited sister city Jecheon City on the 2nd to explore ways to enhance exchange and cooperation between the two cities.
Since establishing a sister city partnership in April 2008, Gwangmyeong City and Jecheon City have been engaged in exchange across various sectors including tourism, culture, and industry.
Mayor Park inspected Jecheon's historical, cultural, and tourism resources including Uirimji, then visited Jecheon City Hall to meet with Mayor Lee and discuss plans for continued exchange and mutual development between the two cities.
Mayor Park stated, "It is meaningful to visit Jecheon today, on Gwangmyeong's 45th City Opening Citizen's Day, to renew our 18-year sister city relationship. We hope to continue this precious connection by sharing the natural, historical, and tourism resources of Jecheon with Gwangmyeong's strengths and best practices in carbon neutrality, lifelong learning, and social solidarity economy policies, and to steadily develop cooperative projects that benefit both cities and grow together."
Mayor Lee responded, "Based on the trust and friendship the two cities have built over many years, we will work together to further broaden the scope of exchange and promote mutual development."
The two cities agreed to expand exchange and cooperation that citizens can directly experience, including resuming and expanding youth mutual visits, direct trade and sales channel sharing of agricultural and specialty products, mutual tours of outstanding policies, and participation in each city's representative events.
On this day, both mayors participated together in a campaign to promote the Hometown Love Donation Program, and city employees from both cities enhanced the meaning of solidarity and cooperation through mutual donations.
Mayor Park then attended the opening ceremony of the '2026 Jecheon Oriental Medicine and Natural Products Industry Expo' held at Jecheon Oriental Medicine Expo Park, where he delivered a congratulatory address and expressed hopes for the successful hosting of the event. He also toured the expo venue to examine exhibitions and experience programs related to oriental medicine and natural products industries.
