Yongin City Unveils 'Yongin Renaissance 2.0' Blueprint for 2027
Yongin Special City held a '2027 Major Projects Implementation Report Meeting' on the 28th at the city hall video conference room, where it discussed key policies and implementation strategies for the city's sustainable development. The city maintained continuity with policies implemented since the 8th mayoral term to realize the city administration motto 'Yongin Renaissance 2.0' and established new policies to be pursued during the 9th mayoral term based on this foundation. The city announced it would concentrate efforts on improving unreasonable practices to resolve citizen inconvenience and pursue 'proactive administration' that seeks solutions in the field, while also presenting policies for leaping forward as a global semiconductor industry hub and infrastructure construction plans for securing industrial competitiveness.
In the administrative sector, the city will introduce a 'direct text message service from the mayor' system, strengthen legal support for civil servants, and promote district divisions and neighborhood divisions for building an efficient administrative system. The city plans to conduct administrative procedures by gathering residents' opinions through public briefings and surveys and undergoing feasibility studies.
In education, the city will develop a 'Yongin City Education integrated brand' and build 'Giheung Eoulim Center' and 'Baekam Elementary School Complex Facility' as school complex facilities. The 'Giheung Eoulim Center' is scheduled to open in March of next year, and construction for 'Baekam Elementary School Complex Facility' is scheduled to begin in October of next year. The city will also pursue designation as a 'Lifelong Learning City' with domestic and international certification and selection as a 'Youth-Friendly City.'
In culture, the city will execute administrative procedures for developing a 'public complex culture and welfare center' in Seongbok-dong, Suji-gu, and review the creation of a 'Idong New City Complex Art Center' including performance halls, art museums, and museums in Idong-eup, Cheoein-gu. The 'Yongin Bandabi Sports Center' is scheduled to have its detailed design completed next year, and new libraries will be built in the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster general industrial complex, Eunhwasam district, and Yurim-dong, Cheoein-gu.
In welfare, the city will expand 'Together Care Centers' and 'Community Child Centers,' support health examination fees for social welfare facility workers at up to 350,000 won per person every two years, and implement a plan to increase the welfare allowance for participants' spouses from 30,000 won to 50,000 won. For pregnant women at 20 weeks or more, pregnancy support funds in local currency will be expanded from 300,000 won to 500,000 won per person.
In industry, the city will pursue designation of the 'Yongin Semiconductor National Advanced Strategic Industry Specialized Complex Semiconductor Cluster' and establish a semiconductor industry cooperation fund. In transportation, the city will establish a 'railway fund' and complete preliminary feasibility studies for three new railway projects including the new Dongbaek-Sinbong line by next year, while also promoting road network expansion including full-section expansion of Local Road 312.
Mayor Lee Sang-il stated, "Yongin is being recognized as a global semiconductor hub and a city making remarkable growth toward a population of 1.5 million. Along with the expansion of industry and city scale, we must build infrastructure that can improve citizens' quality of life in diverse areas including culture, arts, refinement, and sports, and develop it into a livable city for all community members." Mayor Lee added, "The projects to be pursued in 2027 are expected to be of great benefit to citizen happiness and urban development. I hope civil servants will demonstrate strong will and pursue proactive administration so these policies can be executed as planned and yield good results."
Major policies of departments under the First Deputy Mayor were announced at the 28th report meeting. On the 30th, a report meeting on major tasks of collaborative agencies under the city will be held, and a report meeting on major tasks for next year by departments under the Second Deputy Mayor, which handles urban development, railroads, and roads, will be held on October 14.
