Hwaseong Special Status City (Mayor Jung Myung-geun) held its 9th Children and Youth Council regular session on the 5th at the Hwaseong City Council chamber.

The regular session was designed to allow children and youth council members to directly identify and propose policies addressing inconveniences and needs they experience in daily life, while gaining experience in democratic decision-making processes.

A total of 86 members of the 9th Children and Youth Council attended the regular session, presenting policies they had prepared and sharing opinions on policy necessity and expected effects. The council then conducted questions, answers, and discussions on the agenda items and finalized decisions through voting.

The Youth Council reviewed three policy agenda items proposed by the Cultural History Committee, Urban Environment Committee, and Balanced Development Committee. The Children's Council reviewed four policy agenda items proposed by the Education Integration Committee, Traffic Safety Committee, Urban Environment Committee, and Culture and Welfare Committee.

A council member in attendance expressed, "Through the process of directly deliberating on and proposing policies, we were able to reconsider problems in our surroundings" and added, "It was meaningful that our proposed opinions have the potential to be reflected in actual city administration."

The agenda items passed on the day will be subject to review by relevant departments of Hwaseong Special Status City to determine whether they will be reflected in city administration.

Park Kyung-ok, head of the Child-Friendly Division, stated, "This regular session is meaningful in that it is a process where children and youth examine problems in their daily lives and propose policy solutions," and added, "We will carefully review with relevant departments whether these proposals can lead to actual policies, ensuring that the opinions of children and youth are substantively reflected in city administration."
