Old Maetan Market Transformed into a Starlit Themed Alley

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kang Han-seo] The old Maetan Market located in Youngtong-gu, Suwon, has been transformed into a beautiful themed alley.
The themed alley was created as part of the Resident Tax Refund Project by the Maetan 1-dong office (Head Byun Hee-joo), which decorated the passageway between Hyundai Hillstate Apartments and Sunwoo Rose Row Villas—the road leading to the old Maetan Market—with starlit lighting, gobos, LED reed lights, and heart-shaped photo zones.
The old Maetan Market, the only traditional market in Youngtong-gu, typically has heavy foot traffic during daytime hours when the market is open. However, in the evenings when the market closes, the area becomes dark and is rarely visited by residents.
In response, the arcade ceiling was decorated with twinkling starlight to create a feeling as if stars were pouring down from the sky, transforming Maetan 1-dong into a local landmark.
Meanwhile, Maetan 2-dong plans to use the themed alley as an opportunity to develop cultural content harmonious with the market plaza and create a shared space with local residents.
