Suwon to Conduct Inspection of 43 Water Play Splash Facilities
[Suwon Ilbo=Kang Han-seo Reporter] Suwon City will conduct an intensive inspection of water play splash facilities management from the 15th of this month through the end of next month as the summer water play season approaches.
Water play splash facilities are artificial installations that utilize tap water or groundwater and are open to the public for water play activities, with representative examples including bottom fountains and water play areas in parks.
Currently, there are a total of 43 water play splash facilities registered for operation in Suwon City, including Gwanggyo Lake Park.
An inspection team composed of city officials will verify compliance with water quality standards including pH levels, E. coli, and free residual chlorine, as well as inspect facility management conditions such as cleanliness.
According to the Water Environment Conservation Act, managers of water play splash facilities must conduct water quality tests at least twice a month. Additionally, they are required to clean storage tanks at least once a week or disinfect stored water through filters at least once a day to maintain hygienic operations.
The inspection team will recommend on-site improvements for minor issues such as inadequate cleanliness, and for facilities exceeding water quality standards, it will immediately take measures to suspend facility operations and implement improvements along with administrative sanctions.
Sung Ki-bok, director of the Environmental Policy Division of Suwon City, said, "We will conduct thorough inspections so that everyone can safely enjoy water play at splash facilities in a clean environment during the summer season."
