Suwon Yeongtong-gu Runs Talent-Sharing Classes with Sports Stars
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Hong Seong-gil] Suwon's Yeongtong-gu (District Mayor Song Young-wan) held the 'Yoo Nam-kyu Table Tennis Class' event at the district office's main conference room on the 20th.
The event was the second one carried out as part of the ‘Talent-Sharing Classes with Sports Stars’ that the district ambitiously prepared this year.
Earlier in May, the district invited Kim Hoon, a former Yonsei University basketball player and a nostalgic star of the Basketball Festival, to hold a basketball class for youth.
Arranged to encourage the promotion of everyday sports for daily life among residents, foster local pride, and share memories, the event drew heated interest with a stream of participation inquiries and applications from the moment registration opened, confirming that Coach Yoo Nam-kyu's popularity has not cooled.
One participant in the table tennis class said, “As a longtime fan of Coach Yoo Nam-kyu, it's not only great to see him in person but also to receive table tennis coaching from him,” adding, “I hope Yeongtong-gu will continue to prepare many talent-sharing classes not only for table tennis but for other sports as well, so that many residents can have an enjoyable time.”
Meanwhile, as the third session of the ‘Talent-Sharing Classes with Sports Stars,’ Yeongtong-gu plans to hold 'Kim Hoon's Basketball Class' sometime in September, and it plans to accept participant applications starting in mid-August.
Yeongtong-gu District Mayor Song Young-wan said, “I feel rewarded by the strong response from residents to the ‘Talent-Sharing Classes with Sports Stars,’" adding, "We will continue to research and promote programs that residents can actually feel and enjoy, and take the lead in making Yeongtong-gu more vibrant.”
