Suwon Presents Appointment Certificates to Resident Autonomy Committee Members
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City (Mayor Yeom Tae-young) held an appointment ceremony for Resident Autonomy Committee members at City Hall on the 30th, presenting certificates to 240 appointees.
Committee members are selected through a method of 60% public lottery and 40% district head recommendation. They will serve in eight pilot districts for resident autonomy committees: Songok, Yulcheon, Seodun, Homaeshil, Haenggung, Ingye, Maetan 2, and Gwanggyo 1 Districts. Their term is two years. They will perform roles including ▲promoting the Resident Tax Smile Project (resident tax returns program) ▲hosting resident general assemblies ▲establishing village autonomous plans ▲and formulating resident participation budget plans.
In particular, committee members will focus on the Resident Tax Smile Project. The Smile Project, established as part of the resident tax increase returns program, allows residents to directly propose and select projects needed in their communities.
Vice Mayor Cho Cheong-sik stated, "We expanded the Resident Autonomy Committee from three districts last year to eight districts this year. We plan to implement it in all districts after 2021," and urged, "Please do your best in developing the Suwon-style Resident Autonomy Committee model."
On this day, Resident Autonomy Committee members held another resolution meeting urging the withdrawal of Japan's economic retaliation, in which approximately 300 citizens participated on the 23rd, and participated in a boycott movement against Japanese products.
