Suwon City Launches Ice Pack Collection and Reuse Program
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jang Gyeong-hee] Suwon City, a resource-recycling city, is receiving positive responses to its "Zero Waste Ice Pack Collection and Reuse Program with Suwon Citizens," which collects used ice packs for recycling and reuse.
The "Ice Pack Collection and Reuse Program" distributes collected ice packs to large distribution centers within the city to provide them free of charge to citizens visiting the centers, or recycles them for food delivery by the distribution centers.
As of July, the city supplied 4,000 ice packs to E-Suwon Homeplus, W-Suwon Homeplus, and E-Suwon Newcore.
The city has also conducted a field survey since April to supply recycled ice packs and selected large distribution centers requiring recycled ice packs and apartments capable of supplying them.
When ice packs discharged from households are collected, the city's sanitation and resources department and volunteers sort clean ice packs and sequentially distribute them to large distribution centers in need.
The program operates on a limited-time basis during periods of high ice pack usage (July to September), allowing citizens to visit the distribution centers and freely receive as many ice packs as they want.
A city official said, "The ice pack recycling project, which started this year as a pilot program, is receiving a positive response from citizens thanks to the active cooperation of large distribution centers," adding "We will intensively promote the project during the period when ice pack usage increases and establish a public-private cooperation model."
