Suwon City Intensifies Crackdown on Single-Use Items
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City will conduct guidance and inspections through the 30th to verify the use of single-use items (plastic cups, plastic bags, etc.) at 742 businesses including coffee shops and fast-food restaurants in Ingye-dong, Paldalgu. Violations will be corrected on-site immediately, and fines will be imposed according to store size.
The city will intensively conduct inspections of businesses in areas surrounding Suwon City Hall and Nae Hae-seok Street, which have high foot traffic. The Cleanliness and Resources Division inspection teams will verify single-use item usage. Main inspection items include ▲verification of single-use cup usage in stores ▲verification of plastic bag and shopping bag usage (stores with floor area of 165㎡ or larger) ▲verification of free distribution of plastic bags and shopping bags (stores with floor area under 165㎡).
Kim Young-sik, head of the Cleanliness and Resources Division, urged citizens to "refrain from using single-use items for environmental protection and to use personal cups or tumblers."
