Uiwang City Decides to Issue 6 Billion Won in 'Uiwang Love Gift Certificates' Next Year

Gift Certificate Operating Council Meeting Decides on Additional 500 Million Won Issuance Next Month and Raises Individual Purchase Limits
[Suwon Ilbo=Seo Dong-young Reporter] Uiwang City has decided to issue a total of 6 billion won in 'Uiwang Love Gift Certificates' next year, comprising 4 billion won in card-type and 2 billion won in paper-type certificates. Additionally, the city will issue an additional 500 million won in gift certificates next month.
The city held the second Uiwang Love Gift Certificate Operating Council meeting in the video conference room at City Hall on the 24th and announced the decision on the 26th after discussing expanded certificate issuance.
The meeting was held to discuss a second round of expanded issuance as the Uiwang Love Gift Certificates sold 4.8 billion won, which is 96% of the total issuance of 5 billion won, and to determine details related to 2020 issuance.
The meeting was attended by eight committee members including Vice Mayor Jeong Ui-dol, City Councilor Lee Rang, representatives from the Bugok Dokkaebi Market Merchants Association, small business owners and consumer groups, and related experts.
The meeting discussed matters regarding the second expanded issuance amount of Uiwang Love Gift Certificates in 2019, the 2020 issuance amount, individual purchase limits, special discount periods, and special discount rates.
Additionally, the annual individual purchase limit for 2020 will be raised from the existing 4 million won to 4.8 million won, and the monthly purchase limit will be set at a total of 400,000 won—250,000 won for card-type and 150,000 won for paper-type—based on the issuance ratio.
Furthermore, the special discount period, which has garnered high public interest, will run from January 2 to 31 next year before Lunar New Year's Day, and from September 1 to 29 before Chuseok. The special discount rate remains at 10%, unchanged from this year.
Next year, citizens will be able to purchase up to 400,000 won monthly for an annual total of 4.8 million won, with purchase limits set by certificate type. In particular, previously purchased card-type or paper-type gift certificates cannot be exchanged for one another, so caution should be exercised when purchasing.
Meanwhile, the city expanded issuance by 2 billion won in August as the Uiwang Love Gift Certificates sold 2.4 billion won—80% of the initial 3 billion won issuance—within six months of launch.
Vice Mayor Jeong Ui-dol said, "We hope that the additional issuance of Uiwang Love Gift Certificates and the new issuance of card-type gift certificates will benefit citizens and small business owners, and contribute substantively to revitalizing the local economy."
