[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Osan City held opening ceremonies for three new senior centers—'Osan Central Prugio Senior Center,' 'Municipal Sinjang-Sam'an Senior Center,' and 'Segyo 12 Complex Senior Center'—on the 30th of last month and the 4th of this month.
The ceremonies were attended by Osan Mayor Kwak Sang-wook, city council members, officers of the local senior association, heads of administrative divisions and organizations, senior center members, and apartment residents.
In particular, the Municipal Sinjang-Sam'an Senior Center was established after the city purchased a single-family house to support leisure and welfare for seniors in the Sinjang-dong 16th and 21st neighborhoods. Following remodeling work, the facility now includes rooms, a living room, kitchen, and restroom.
Choi Hae-su, chairman of the Sinjang-Sam'an Senior Center, expressed gratitude, saying, "There was nowhere for elderly residents in this area to go, so the city built a senior center in a wonderful location."
Mayor Kwak Sang-wook stated in his remarks, "We will expand and promote senior welfare policies, including programs to activate senior centers, job creation for the elderly, and social activity support initiatives."
Meanwhile, the city is implementing various self-directed projects to improve senior welfare, including basic pensions, longevity allowances, winter heating assistance, hearing aids, and eyeglasses support for basic livelihood recipients, denture and implant assistance, operation of the Osan Senior Comprehensive Welfare Center and elderly-exclusive bathhouses and silver care centers, and operation of dementia care centers.
