Yongin Special City to Recruit Demonstration Project Ideas for Drone Special Autonomous Zone Designation

Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced on the 13th that it is currently conducting drone demonstration projects reflecting regional characteristics and conducting a demand survey of participating companies to participate in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's "4th designation of Drone Special Autonomous Zone" project.

The demand survey is to be used as basic data to identify fields where drone utilization is necessary or has high application potential in Yongin, and to understand utilization methods of drones based on the "Drone Special Autonomous Zone regulatory exemptions," it said.

The "Drone Special Autonomous Zone" is a system that exempts or simplifies drone flight-related regulations such as △flight approval △special flight approval △safety certification to promote demonstration and commercialization of technologies utilizing drones.

Once designated as a special zone, participating operators included in the development plan conduct demonstrations according to the set operation plan and safety management system. However, it is not a space where the general public and drone enthusiasts can freely fly drones.

The city is seeking ways to utilize drones to address local issues such as △disaster and safety △environmental management △facility inspection, and is expected to be able to discover creative ideas that can be applied to public services.

The demand survey will be conducted until September 16. The survey targets domestic drone companies, universities, and research institutions related to fields such as △aircraft △services △air traffic control △artificial intelligence analysis, and the city plans to prioritize projects that can contribute to resolving local issues by reflecting geographic, industrial, and environmental characteristics.

The ideas proposed by each organization will be reviewed and selected as demonstration project candidates, and are scheduled to be submitted to the October "4th designation of Drone Special Autonomous Zone" project call for proposals.

A city official said, "We expect that the Drone Special Autonomous Zone will provide a foundation for companies to demonstrate various drone technologies and services," and "We hope for keen interest and participation from related companies and institutions in the demand survey to discover demonstration projects that can be utilized in addressing Yongin's local issues and public services."
