Yongin Special City Consults on Formation of Semiconductor Industry Cooperation Fund and Platform Construction

Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) held the fourth Semiconductor Industry Competitiveness Enhancement Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) on the 17th in the City Hall video conference room in 2026.

At the meeting, the Committee held consultations and discussions on the pledge projects of the ninth civilian-led administration, including the formation of a Semiconductor Industry Cooperation Fund (tentative name) and the promotion of platform construction for semiconductor industry-academia-government cooperation.

The Committee then received reports on the implementation status of semiconductor-related projects, including the designation of a semiconductor cluster and the 2026 Semiconductor Industry Implementation Plan (draft).

Second Vice Mayor Hwang Jun-gi said, "I appreciate the Committee members who attended the meeting despite their busy schedules to strengthen the semiconductor industry competitiveness of Yongin Special City," and added, "I hope that the Committee members, who are experts in various fields related to the semiconductor industry, will use their wisdom to fill in the city's shortcomings for the development of Yongin's semiconductor industry going forward."

Meanwhile, the city began operating the "First Semiconductor Industry Competitiveness Enhancement Committee" in February 2023, comprised of 14 members including business leaders and professors who are experts in the semiconductor industry, as well as city officials and city council members.

Members of the first committee discussed improvement measures for the "2024-2027 Yongin City Semiconductor Industry Fostering Comprehensive Plan and Annual Implementation Plan" and the "2023-2026 Yongin City Semiconductor Talent Development Comprehensive Plan."

They also proposed utilizing the International Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Association and promoting one-stop service for business attraction.

The second committee was launched in March last year, with 18 members divided into four subcommittees—policy, business support, talent development, and infrastructure—continuing research and discussions on semiconductor industry fostering, business support, and development measures.
