Samsung Electronics to Establish Advanced Automated Logistics Hub at Pyeongtaek Poseung District

The Gyeonggi Economic Free Zone Authority, Pyeongtaek City, and Samsung Electronics have joined hands to establish a 500 billion won state-of-the-art automated logistics center in the Poseung (BIX) District of the Gyeonggi Economic Free Zone.

The Gyeonggi Economic Free Zone Authority signed the 'Samsung Electronics CDC Logistics Center Investment Agreement' on the 29th at the Gyeonggi Economic Authority with key stakeholders including Kim Neung-sik, director of the Gyeonggi Economic Free Zone Authority; Choi Won-yong, mayor of Pyeongtaek City; and Park Soon-chul, vice president (CFO) of Samsung Electronics, in attendance.

CDC stands for 'Central Distribution Center,' which refers to a central logistics center that comprehensively manages all logistics operations including product intake/release, storage, sorting, and delivery.

According to the agreement, Samsung Electronics will invest a total of 500 billion won in approximately 110,000 square meters (about 33,830 pyeong) of logistics facility land in the Poseung (BIX) District to establish an advanced automated logistics hub center handling home appliances. The center broke ground in March of last year and is under construction with a target completion date of June next year. Once the center becomes fully operational, it is expected to create approximately 300 jobs.

The Gyeonggi Economic Free Zone Authority and Pyeongtaek City plan to actively support related permits and administrative procedures to ensure the project proceeds smoothly, and will operate a communication channel to swiftly resolve any difficulties faced by the company.

Samsung Electronics will make efforts in facility construction considering carbon reduction and environmentally friendly logistics center operations, while also contributing to revitalizing the local economy by prioritizing local hiring.

This investment is significant in that it has attracted Samsung Electronics' state-of-the-art logistics facilities to the Gyeonggi Economic Free Zone. In particular, based on the location competitiveness of the Poseung District adjacent to Pyeongtaek Port and its proximity to major transportation networks including the West Coast Expressway, it is expected to enhance logistics efficiency and bring positive effects to expanding cargo volume at Pyeongtaek Port and creating high-value-added jobs.

The Pyeongtaek Poseung (BIX) District is an industrial and logistics hub adjacent to Pyeongtaek Port and equipped with major transportation networks including the West Coast Expressway. Once the Samsung Electronics CDC Logistics Center is completed, the Poseung District is expected to make a significant leap forward as a complex industrial hub with both manufacturing support functions and advanced logistics capabilities.

Kim Neung-sik, director of the Gyeonggi Economic Free Zone Authority, said, "This agreement is significant in that Samsung Electronics, a leading domestic company, has recognized the competitiveness of the port, industrial, and logistics infrastructure that the Pyeongtaek Poseung District possesses," and added, "We will continue to provide administrative support together with Pyeongtaek City so that the logistics center can be completed as planned and lead to expanded cargo volume at Pyeongtaek Port and the creation of quality jobs."

Choi Won-yong, mayor of Pyeongtaek City, said, "Samsung Electronics' large-scale investment will further strengthen Pyeongtaek's industrial and logistics competitiveness and will be an opportunity to breathe new vitality into the local economy," and continued, "We will make efforts to provide swift and systematic administrative support so that the project can proceed successfully."

Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Economic Free Zone Authority began initial investment consultations with Samsung Electronics in the second half of 2022, and has since listened to the company's challenges at the site and worked with relevant agencies to develop solutions throughout the process from land acquisition, traffic impact assessments, building permits, to groundbreaking. Samsung Electronics purchased the business site in 2023, completed administrative procedures including building permits in 2024, and commenced construction in March 2025.
