[Suwon Ilbo=Correspondent Seo Dong-young] Yeongtong-gu in Suwon (District Chief Song Young-wan) held a graduation ceremony on the 12th for the environmental education program "Ecological Environment Class," which has been conducted since May targeting infants aged 6-7 and their families.
The Ecological Environment Class is one of the "Yeongtong Environment Academy," a customized environmental education program by age group for Yeongtong-gu to address climate change and create a sustainable future.
It is an environmental education program held at Woncheon-ri Stream and Mernae Ecological Park where infants can learn about the urban ecological environment through play and hands-on experiences centered on natural environments.
The program was conducted once a month for a total of seven sessions from May to November, and operated programs tailored to the changing ecology by season, including lessons on trees, observation of aquatic organisms living in Woncheon-ri Stream, and searching for various fruits. At the graduation ceremony attended by 40 participants, an eco-bag making class was followed by reports on activities conducted thus far and presentations of participants' impressions.
A district official said, "We will continue to provide environmental education to more residents next year and make Yeongtong-gu a community that values and cherishes the environment."
