Yeongdeungpo District Conducts Joint Crackdown on Illegal Parking in Academy-Dense Area Near Yeongdeungpo Station
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Yeongdeungpo District in Suwon City is conducting a joint illegal parking crackdown for three days starting from the 18th in the academy-dense area near Yeongdeungpo Station, where habitual illegal parking is severe, in cooperation with Yeongdeungpo Police Box of Suwon South Police Station.
The academy district around Yeongdeungpo Station frequently receives complaints about parking enforcement due to illegal roadside parking by academy buses and private vehicles picking up students from late afternoon into the evening. Traffic accidents also occur frequently in the area.
To eliminate illegal parking, unmanned monitoring cameras (CCTV) have been installed and operated, but enforcement only applies when vehicles are parked for more than 10 minutes. When drivers are present in the vehicle, it has been difficult to enforce regulations during on-site crackdowns as drivers move their vehicles.
The district is continuously conducting joint crackdowns with Suwon South Police Station throughout the year. When drivers are present, Suwon South Police Station imposes fines on the drivers. For illegal parking without drivers present, the district imposes administrative fines on vehicle owners.
Lee Chul-soo, head of the district's Economy and Transportation Division, stated, "The Yeongdeungpo Station area has extensive illegal parking not only from academy vehicles but also in government offices and commercial districts, so CCTV enforcement has its limitations," and added, "Going forward, we will continue to promote joint crackdowns with the police station to resolve traffic inconvenience for citizens and establish a proper parking culture."
