[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City and Chung-Ang University signed an 'Agreement for the Development of Urban Design Industry-Academia Cooperation' at the Suwon Convention Center on the 2nd, committing to collaborate for the advancement of Suwon City's public design.
The city and Chung-Ang University will establish a cooperative framework for Suwon City's urban design development and will actively utilize the human and material infrastructure of both institutions necessary for joint design of public projects and design support.
They will operate 'design development field training' and 'internship programs' that allow Chung-Ang University students to participate, and will activate exchange and cooperation by hosting design seminars and workshops.
The signing ceremony was attended by Suwon City Vice Mayor Jo Mu-young, Chung-Ang University Executive Vice President Kim Won-yong, and others.
Vice Mayor Jo Mu-young stated, "We can strengthen urban competitiveness by strategically utilizing design," and "Based on cooperation with Chung-Ang University's industry-academia cooperation division, we will be able to produce high-quality design results." He added, "We will create a model case of mutual development with Chung-Ang University."
The city recruited a design planning director to comprehensively oversee Suwon City urban design in order to strategically utilize public design and establish and implement effective design policies. Additionally, in September, the city established the Urban Design Division, a dedicated design department through organizational restructuring, building the foundation for 'design administration.'
In October, the city received the Grand Prize at the 'Korea Public Design Awards 2019' organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for 'Development of Standard Design for Suwon City Public Facilities (Information Facilities) to Realize a Pedestrian-Friendly City.'
