Asahikawa City Delegation from Japan Visits Suwon to Share Outstanding Urban Design Policies
Suwon Special City (Mayor Lee Jae-jun) shared Suwon's outstanding urban design policies with a training delegation from Asahikawa City, Japan's international sister city, through the Creative City Promotion Council.
The training session held at the Suwon Convention Center on the 11th was attended by 25 officials from the Asahikawa Creative City Promotion Council and Suwon City officials.
Under the theme "Opening the City, Welcoming People," Suwon City introduced excellent cases of how Suwon's identity, formed around the UNESCO World Heritage Suwon Hwaseong fortress, was connected to urban design policies. The session was followed by a Q&A; session and exchange of opinions with participants.
The delegation also visited major facilities including the Samsung Innovation Museum, Galleria Gwanggyo, Gwanggyo Lake Park, and Starfield Suwon to examine Suwon's architecture, design, and urban revitalization cases.
The Asahikawa Creative City Promotion Council is a public-private partnership organization that promotes urban development and regional revitalization through design. It supports the development of the design industry and creation of sustainable creative cities by connecting with local businesses, designers, educational institutions, and citizens.
An official from Suwon City stated, "We shared urban design policies that connect the value of city assets including Suwon Hwaseong to urban spaces and citizens' experiences," and added, "We hope this training will serve as an opportunity to continue exchanges in diverse fields including culture and urban policies by sharing each other's policies and experiences."
