Choo Mi-ae Visits Disaster Response Centers and Police Posts to Encourage Emergency Duty Staff During Chuseok Holiday
Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae visited the Gyeonggi Province Government Complex, the Fire and Disaster Management Headquarters, and police posts on the 24th, the first day of the Chuseok holiday, to encourage emergency duty staff and urge seamless response measures.
Governor Choo visited the emergency medical treatment situation room, emergency welfare hotline call center, integrated situation room, disaster situation room, and on-duty room operating within the provincial government building to encourage the staff on duty.
Governor Choo's first stop was the disaster situation room in the provincial building, where she said, "Thank you for keeping the holiday on behalf of the residents. Please think of yourselves as the command center for provincial residents' emergency response and respond thoroughly and carefully."
Governor Choo then visited the Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Management Headquarters situation room located in the former Gyeonggi Province Government Complex in Paldal-gu, Suwon, where she met with staff responsible for monitoring various incidents and accidents, conducting safety inspections, and implementing responses. She also encouraged staff at the Gyeonggi Province 120 Call Center and the special environmental pollution prevention surveillance team working at the old building.
After reviewing the highway traffic situation and fire dispatch status at the Fire and Disaster Management Headquarters situation room, Governor Choo said, "Thank you for working hard to protect the lives and safety of provincial residents even during the holiday. Thanks to you, it seems like we will have a safe Chuseok. Please take pride in your work."
Governor Choo subsequently visited the traffic information center situation room located in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, and the animal health testing institute situation room on emergency duty to prepare for livestock infectious diseases during the holiday period, followed by visits to Homaesil Police Post and Homaesil 119 Safety Center to encourage the working staff.
In particular, Governor Choo traveled to Jeongnam-myeon, Hyohang-gu, Hwaseong City, where a recent fire had occurred, and visited the Hwaseong Jeongnam 119 Safety Center. On the 16th, a major fire broke out at a resource circulation facility in Jeongnam-myeon, prompting the fire response to be elevated to level 2 and extinguished.
At the facility, Governor Choo said, "I came to offer encouragement because a fire occurred not long ago. Since this is an area where similar accidents can happen and an environment requiring vigilance even during the Chuseok holiday, as governor, I wanted to offer encouragement and express my gratitude for your dedicated efforts in protecting the lives and safety of provincial residents."
After receiving a briefing on the situation at the time of the fire and the suppression process, Governor Choo said, "The industrial complexes in Hwaseong and other parts of Gyeonggi Province are always susceptible to fires, and if toxic gases are released, they can harm ordinary homes, but you responded quickly and well. Thank you for your special efforts." She added, "Oil tanks must have grounding devices installed as a requirement to prevent static electricity from occurring. Please prepare institutional improvement measures to prevent cases similar to this fire."
Gyeonggi Province will implement a comprehensive 2026 Chuseok plan spanning four major areas—livelihoods stabilization, safety and health, culture and welfare, and transportation and convenience—from the 24th through the 27th so residents can spend a safe and comfortable holiday.
A total of 41 duty teams from 16 administrative departments, comprising 872 personnel, will operate the integrated situation room to respond swiftly to disasters, accidents, and complaints, with plans to minimize inconvenience to provincial residents.
