Uiwang City Holds Completion Ceremony for "Learning Centers That Come to You"

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Uiwang City held a completion ceremony for the "Learning Centers That Come to You" program and an awards ceremony for the "7th Senior Writing Competition" on the 3rd at the City Hall Conference Room.

Learning Centers That Come to You is a lifelong education program in which literacy educators visit senior centers within the city to provide education to seniors in Korean language, arithmetic, art, and functional literacy.

Beginning with a cheerful lecture by a laughter instructor, all graduates wore academic caps and gowns and individually received their certificates of completion.

This year's learning center program was conducted for 9 months at 10 senior centers including Kkachi, Samshin 8-cha, Hyundai Morak-san, Ojeon-dong Baeumdeul, Maehwa, Dongbaek, Naesonzu Gongdan, Cheonggyae 4-tong, Bandobora 1-danji, and Doosan Weave 2-danji. A total of 92 seniors participated, with 81 completing the program.

An awards ceremony for the "7th Senior Writing Competition" was also held. In the "Letter Writing" category, Mr. Kim Baek-gi (male, 84), a senior from Hyundai Morak-san Apartment Senior Center, won the grand prize. In the "Beautiful Handwriting" category, Ms. Lee Young-ja (female, 80), a senior from Cheonggyae 4-tong Senior Center, received the grand prize, with a total of 11 seniors receiving awards.

Mayor Kim Sang-don said, "I sincerely congratulate the seniors who have completed the Learning Centers That Come to You program and those who won in the writing competition," and added, "Going forward, we will provide not only education through Learning Centers That Come to You but also various lifelong learning programs for seniors to participate in."
