Uiwang City Expands Public WiFi Service to Citizen Multi-Use Facilities

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Uiwang City has expanded its public WiFi service, which was previously provided mainly at public buildings, to citizen multi-use facilities starting this month.

The city has installed 126 APs (wireless transceivers) at 72 citizen multi-use facilities frequently visited by residents, including Baekun and Wangsong Lakes and libraries.

The public WiFi zone construction project establishes gigabit-speed open free WiFi zones. The project was pursued to allow all citizens to use wireless internet without communication charges, thereby improving urban competitiveness and expanding citizens' access to information.

To help citizens easily recognize public WiFi zones, promotional stickers are attached inside buildings, and signboards are installed on CCTV poles at Baekun and Wangsong Lakes.

Users can enjoy free internet at public WiFi zones by selecting 'G_PublicWiFi@Uiwang' from the wireless network settings on their personal mobile phones, regardless of mobile carrier.

A city official said, "In a situation where smartphones have become essential to life, citizens' basic right to communication is a right that everyone should be guaranteed," adding, "We will continue to expand free public WiFi zones to parks, traditional markets, and bus stops so that more citizens can benefit."
