Suwon City's 2020 Budget Confirmed at 2.83 Trillion Won
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] The Suwon City Council held its second plenary session on December 19, the final day of the 347th regular session, passing 55 agenda items including the 2020 budget proposal, ordinance bills, and approval items, and completing the 2019 legislative schedule.
Suwon City's 2020 budget was passed as finalized by the Budget and Final Accounts Special Committee. The 2020 budget size totals 2.83 trillion won, an increase of 49.5 billion won compared to the previous year. From the expenditure budget requested by the city, a total of 13.2 billion won was cut and adjusted across 132 items.
The main agenda items passed total 51 items. These include 21 items under the Planning and Economy Committee, such as a partial amendment ordinance on scholarship disbursement for children of bank account holders in Suwon City; 5 items under the Culture and Welfare Committee, including a partial amendment ordinance on the treatment and status improvement of social workers in Suwon City; 7 items under the Transportation, Construction and Sports Committee, such as an ordinance on the placement and support of smoke masks for fire evacuation in Suwon City; 15 items under the Urban Environment and Education Committee, including an ordinance on dementia management and support in Suwon City; and 3 budget proposals reviewed by the Budget and Final Accounts Special Committee.
Council Chair Jo Myung-ja said, "I thank the council members and public officials who have dedicated themselves to passionate legislative activities throughout the year, working at the sites alongside our citizens. I urge you to do your best so that the council becomes one that can bring hope to citizens in the new year." Meanwhile, the 348th extraordinary session, the first session of 2020, is scheduled to be held from February 11 to 26 of next year.
