Osan City Holds New Year's Sunrise Viewing Event at Doksan Fortress in 2020

[Suwon Ilbo=Seo Dong-young Reporter] On January 1st, Osan City and the Osan Cultural Center held a New Year's sunrise viewing event at Doksan Fortress with approximately 2,000 citizens.

The event began with a hiking trail starting from the entrance of Doksan Fortress's main gate, followed by a brass quintet performance by the An Jung-geun Peace Orchestra before sunrise and a traditional prayer dance performance by the Osan Dance Association's Rate Dance Company. Special events including "sharing of traditional malted barley candy for good fortune" and "words of blessing for myself this year" were also arranged.

The home repair volunteer group provided homemade fish cake soup to citizens participating in the sunrise viewing event. The Osan New Community Women's Association distributed homemade beef bone rice cake soup.

Osan City Mayor Kwak Sang-wook, who attended the event, stated, "2019 was a year of significant changes and achievements as we marked the 30th anniversary of our city's establishment," and added, "I ask all citizens to show continued interest and participation in city administration as we begin a new era for Osan City in 2020—making it the foundation year for an education-centered city, a child-friendly city, and a cultural city, which will be finalized by the end of 2020."

Osan Cultural Center Director Jung Jin-heung said, "The New Year's sunrise viewing event at Doksan Fortress holds even greater significance as stone walls from the Proto-Three Kingdoms period were discovered there last year," and pledged, "Moving forward, I will work even more closely with Osan citizens to establish Osan City as a cultural city that solidifies the city's brand identity built on education through culture."
