Pyeongtaek City and Korean Railroad Corporation Expand Seojeongni Station Transit Parking Lot
[Suwon Ilbo=Correspondent Seo Dong-young] Pyeongtaek City announced on the 2nd that it has completed the expansion project of the Seojeongni Station transit parking lot carried out in collaboration with the Korean Railroad Corporation.
The Seojeongni Station transit parking lot is located near Seojeongni Station and the Seojeong Traditional Market, and has been an area with limited parking space that generated many complaints from citizens.
The city had been reviewing parking lot expansion to resolve parking issues, but faced difficulties due to the heavy burden of land compensation costs around the station.
Meanwhile, the Korean Railroad Corporation's Seoul Metropolitan Area Western Headquarters (Head Director Kwon Hyuk-jin) discovered idle land that had been leased to Daehan Tongwun, and began consultations with the Korean Railroad Corporation starting in October 2018 to utilize it.
After approximately one year of consultation with the Korean Railroad Corporation, the city signed a cooperation agreement in November 2019 in which the Korean Railroad Corporation would provide the parking lot construction site and Pyeongtaek City would bear the construction costs.
Accordingly, the Seojeongni Station transit parking lot will expand by 79 spaces (2,288 square meters) through the construction project, reaching a total of 145 spaces and becoming available for use from the 6th.
Parking fees will be applied according to the 'Pyeongtaek City Parking Lot Installation and Management Ordinance' to minimize the burden on citizens.
A city official stated, "Through this collaboration, we were able to use 2,288 square meters of Korean Railroad Corporation land used for parking lot expansion at no cost, reducing compensation expenses," and added, "Resolving the long-awaited public parking lot expansion project through collaboration between the local government and the Korean Railroad Corporation will serve as a model case."
