"Let's Overcome COVID-19 Together" Pyeongtaek City's Strong Wave of Donations
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Donations from Pyeongtaek citizens, businesses, and organizations to overcome COVID-19 together continue to pour in.
On the 8th, Pyeongtaek City announced that donations totaling 670 million won in cash and goods have been received from citizens, businesses, and organizations supporting the effort to overcome COVID-19. The cash donations amounted to 490 million won, and goods were valued at 180 million won.
Of the 490 million won in cash donations, 130 million won was used to purchase quarantine supplies including disinfection machines, automatic hand sanitizers, disposable masks, and non-contact thermometers, which were delivered to social welfare facilities to prevent cluster infections.
Previously, in March, 20.6 million won collected by Pyeongtaek City civil servants was used to purchase Pyeongtaek Love gift cards for 206 low-income households in the city. The remaining donated funds are scheduled to be distributed sequentially to citizens facing difficulties due to COVID-19.
Items valued at 180 million won, including hand sanitizers and masks, were distributed to senior centers, social welfare facilities, and low-income households to help block infection in the community.
To continue and expand this momentum, the city has been running a special fundraising campaign for disaster basic income called "Sharing Love, Happy Pyeongtaek" from the 27th of last month through the 31st of this month.
Mayor Jung Jang-seon and senior city officials and civil servants took the lead in making donations, and ordinary citizens are also participating in donations so that disaster basic income can be used to help those in greater need.
Mayor Jung stated, "Over the 100 days since the first COVID-19 patient occurred in Korea, the warm-hearted support from all sectors of our community has become the driving force to overcome COVID-19," and added, "With the spirit of sharing and solidarity that shines brightest in times of difficulty, we will do our best to help citizens overcome COVID-19 and return to vibrant daily life as soon as possible."
