Suwon Conducts Survey on Protected Trees' Growing Environment
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City will conduct surveys on the growing environment of protected trees within the city and carry out management projects through November this year.
This project aims to improve the growing environment of protected trees designated under the Forest Protection Act, enhance their natural resilience, and systematically manage and protect them.
The targets include 23 protected trees within the city, including a zelkova tree at Danoh Children's Park in Yeongdeungpo-gu (Suwon Protected Tree No. 11) and a sawtooth oak tree in Seodun-dong, Gwonseon-gu (Suwon Protected Tree No. 23).
The project will inspect the growth condition of the 23 trees, including the state of foliage and root development and decay conditions in branches and trunks, and implement ‘customized growth environment improvement (management and construction)’.
Additionally, the city will undertake tree surgery (preventing wounds from enlarging or rotting), nutrient treatment, preservative processing, installation of support stakes and guide ropes, pest control, and removal of soil cover.
In particular, the zelkova tree at Gwanggyo History Park (Protected Tree No. 15) and the zelkova tree at Yeongdeungpo Danoh Children's Park (Protected Tree No. 11) will receive intensive management to restore the vigor of these weakened protected trees.
