Suwon City to Deliver COVID-19 Donations to 'Neighbors in Need'
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City announced on the 6th that it will deliver COVID-19-related donations made to the city by citizens, institutions, and organizations to those in need, in accordance with the donors' wishes.
The city will distribute 479.71 million won (71.16%) of the 674.151 million won raised as of May 31 within July. The donations remaining after the first distribution, along with donations received after May 31, will be distributed in a second round in September.
The city will provide 100 million won to small business owners affected by COVID-19, 287 million won to the unemployed, and 92.71 million won to vulnerable groups such as low-income households.
Small business owners (50 establishments) whose business names were disclosed on the 'confirmed patient movement route' because a COVID-19 patient visited before being confirmed will receive 50 million won in special consolation payments, and businesses near areas where confirmed cases occurred (100 establishments) will receive 50 million won.
Those who lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 situation, including unemployed young people (ages 19 to 34) and unemployed taxi drivers, will each receive 1 million won.
In addition, donations will be delivered to vulnerable groups in welfare blind spots, such as low-income single-parent families and low-income foreigners. Part of the cost of producing lunch boxes to support low-income elderly people who face the risk of skipping meals due to the suspension of senior cafeteria operations following the COVID-19 outbreak will also be provided.
On June 8, the city held a briefing session on the donation distribution project for all departments and accepted project applications.
After a review committee examined the projects, it selected the recipients and requested distribution from the Gyeonggi Community Chest. The first round of distribution is scheduled to be completed within July.
The city and the Gyeonggi Community Chest will carry out the 'Fruit of Love and #Overcome Together Suwon Sharing Campaign' until August 31 to help those facing hardship due to COVID-19.
Citizens who wish to donate can deposit money into the special fundraising account (Nonghyup 317-0003-8354-31, account holder: Gyeonggi Community Chest) or place their donations in the collection boxes installed at each community service center.
Donors can select from the designated donation form to give to those they wish to help, such as small business owners, unemployed young people, and low-income or marginalized citizens facing hardship due to the COVID-19 situation.
