Pyeongtaek City and Pyeongtaek Regional Maritime Fisheries Administration Hold 2020 Administrative Cooperation Meeting

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Pyeongtaek City and the Pyeongtaek Regional Maritime Fisheries Administration held the ‘2020 Pyeongtaek City-Pyeongtaek Regional Maritime Fisheries Administration Administrative Cooperation Meeting’ at Pyeongtaek City Hall on the 5th.

At the meeting, Pyeongtaek City presented eight agenda items including ▲creation of waterfront recreation facilities at port drainage channels ▲development of Gwangwan Port Sunset Healing Fishing Village ▲joint promotion of fine dust reduction measures at Pyeongtaek Port ▲development around Pyeongtaek Port International Passenger Terminal, and agreed to jointly respond to boost tourism and improve the environment around Pyeongtaek Port.

The Pyeongtaek Regional Maritime Fisheries Administration explained ▲completion of a welfare center and ancillary facilities for port workers ▲transfer of port access roads in Pyeongtaek ▲promotion of related projects near Pyeongtaek Port drainage channels ▲environmental improvement around the port.

An agreement ceremony for maintaining a regular container route between Pyeongtaek Port and Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Thailand) was also held.

Mayor Jung Jang-seon stated, “Despite continuous growth since Pyeongtaek Port was designated as an international port, there are still many issues to be resolved,” and added, “Let us develop comprehensive mid- and long-term master plans for port development and nurture Pyeongtaek Port into a multipurpose comprehensive hub port for Southeast Asia.”

Administrator Kim Jong-in also said, “Despite its short history, Pyeongtaek Port has rapidly grown into a representative national port and established itself as a logistics hub for the metropolitan area,” and continued, “We will maintain continuous communication and cooperation with Pyeongtaek City to ensure smooth implementation of pending issues for the revitalization of Pyeongtaek Port.”

Meanwhile, the Pyeongtaek City-Pyeongtaek Regional Maritime Fisheries Administration Administrative Cooperation Meeting has been operated since 2015 to revitalize Pyeongtaek Port and promote development of the West Coast.
