Osan City Holds Final Report on Study of 'Child Protection Zone Pedestrian Safety Measures'

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Osan City held a final report meeting for the 'Study on Osan City Child Protection Zone Pedestrian Safety Measures' at Osan City Hall on the 4th.

The research project was conducted after being selected as a recipient of Gyeonggi Province's 2020 'City and County Policy Research Support' program. The final report meeting was attended by officials from Osan City, Gyeonggi Province, the Osan Police Agency, and the Gyeonggi Research Institute.

The meeting was held amid heightened public attention to pedestrian safety for children in school zones following recent amendments to the 'Min Sik's Law' (revised legislation on special crime and provisional punishment).

The research project proposed four key principles of 'safety, comfort, autonomy, and sustainability' to secure children's pedestrian safety. It also presented specific facility improvement plans for four schools in the city (Osan Gohyeon Elementary, Seongho Elementary, Hwaseong Elementary, and Semi Elementary) by residential zone.

Osan City Mayor Kwak Sang-wook stated, "We are reviewing the introduction of a smart children's traffic safety system to ensure pedestrian safety in child protection zones," and added, "We will implement the improvement measures presented in the research results after securing the necessary budget for next year."
