[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] The Suwon Agricultural Technology Center announced on Wednesday that it will deliver rice harvested from Tapdong Citizens Farm in Gwonseon-gu to 17 community refrigerators throughout the city on the 26th and 27th.

This event was organized to practice the "value of sharing" in urban agriculture through sharing activities and to enhance the public functions of citizens farms.

A total of 400kg of new rice will be divided into 200 bags (2kg each) and delivered to each community refrigerator. Additional items such as lettuce, sweet potatoes, and kimchi vegetables are planned for the future.

Meanwhile, Tapdong Citizens Farm was established on April 25 of last year on a 119,635 square-meter site at 155 Seodun-ro, Gwonseon-gu (Tapdong 540-2 beonji), affiliated with the Seoul National University College of Agriculture. It consists of "experience gardens" where citizens can farm and cultivate crops, "scenic zones" with seasonal flower beds (lotus flowers, sunflowers, etc.) and rice paddies, and urban agriculture education spaces.

A community refrigerator is a shared refrigerator where anyone can place food, and those in need can take what they require.

Since Suwon Sustainable Development Council first installed one in Gosaeк-dong, Gwonseon-gu in January 2018, 17 community refrigerators have been operating to date.

Residents wishing to share food such as vegetables, ingredients, fruits, and side dishes can apply for a donation at the business or organization operating the community refrigerator and then place the food in the refrigerator.
