Pyeongtaek City Saves 7.05 Billion Won Through Contract Review Operations Last Year

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Pyeongtaek City announced on the 4th that it achieved budget savings of 7.054 billion won through the operation of its contract review system last year.

Based on last year's data, the city conducted reviews on a total of 318 projects worth approximately 156.9 billion won, including construction, services, and goods manufacturing and procurement, resulting in savings of 6.229 billion won in construction costs, 825 million won in service fees, and a total of 7.054 billion won.

In particular, while operating the contract review system, the city made efforts to ensure timely project implementation through pre-consultation with requesting departments, focusing on verifying compliance with pre-administrative procedures and shortening review periods.

Additionally, in 2020, the city worked on establishing specific application standards for each site regarding revisions to the standard cost estimates that had been previously applied uniformly, making efforts toward consistent and valid reviews. As a result, it achieved recognition as an outstanding institution in the "2020 Contract Review Operation Evaluation."

Meanwhile, the contract review system, which has been implemented since 2010, is designed to examine the appropriateness of cost calculations presented by requesting departments before project issuance to preemptively block budget waste factors and efficiently manage finances.

A city official stated, "As the demand for various development projects increases due to rapid population growth and urbanization, project budgets are increasing annually, making the importance of contract review operations greater," and added, "In 2021, rather than unconditional cost reductions for performance, we will strive to actively support efficient city financial operations and smooth project implementation by calculating rational costs considering the quality of public projects and eliminating unnecessary budget waste factors."
