Pyeongtaek City Holds 2nd Task Force Meeting on Creating 'Young Cultural Street'

[News S=Seo Dong-young] Based on its unique characteristics as a U.S. military garrison area, Pyeongtaek City is moving forward with creating cultural urban spaces in front of U.S. military bases and around Pyeongtaek Station.

The city held the '2nd Task Force Meeting for Creating a Young Cultural Street' on the 21st at Pyeongtaek City Hall to establish a five-year plan.

The meeting was attended by approximately 20 people including officials from the city's Korea-U.S. International Exchange Division, Cultural Affairs Division, Tourism Division, Urban Regeneration Division, Sports Promotion Division, Food Policy Division, Housing Division, as well as representatives from the Pyeongtaek Station Area Maintenance Promotion Group, Pyeongtaek International Exchange Foundation, Pyeongtaek Culture Foundation, and consulting firms.

The meeting, chaired by Park Hong-gu, Director of the International Culture Bureau, brought together ideas for efficient promotion including discovery of research tasks to revitalize projects from each related department and concretization of projects by stages.

Song Gyeong-hee, CEO of Happy Imagination Co., Ltd. and expert in cultural arts planning and research, said "This research task has the major operations of various related departments organically connected, so Pyeongtaek City's Task Force meeting is encouraging," and emphasized "we will proceed substantially so that the mid- to long-term research task for a Young Cultural Street is not merely ending as research but is well reflected in reality."

Park Hong-gu, Director of the International Culture Bureau, said "Based on active collaboration from related departments and organizations, we plan to conduct demand surveys and expert advisory meetings targeting Pyeongtaek citizens and U.S. Forces Korea in the future," and added "by developing content that embodies Pyeongtaek's identity and resonates with young people, we will create a street that expands cultural enjoyment opportunities for Pyeongtaek citizens and U.S. Forces Korea."
