Suwon City to Provide Selective 'Emergency Disaster Relief Funds' with 35 Billion Won Over Two Rounds
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City announced on the 3rd that it will provide about 35 billion won in 'emergency disaster relief funds' over two rounds around the Lunar New Year holiday, for groups suffering hardship due to COVID-19.
First, before the Lunar New Year holiday, the city will provide about 7.5 billion won in the first round for projects such as ▲revitalizing the local economy ▲supporting childcare blind spots ▲relieving damage in the transportation industry ▲tax reductions and easing usage fee burdens.
The second round of support will be carried out in March. About 27.5 billion won will be provided for projects such as ▲supporting the livelihood stability of special-type workers and freelancers ▲addressing blind spots in government support ▲revitalizing the local economy.
The city plans to provide emergency support to groups suffering hardship from the prolonged COVID-19 situation, to 'well-intentioned victims' affected by government quarantine measures, and to citizens left in the 'blind spots' of government and Gyeonggi Province support policies.
Fields requiring emergency relief before the Lunar New Year holiday will be supported first, while fields requiring system supplementation and advance preparation will be supported in the second round.
Specific details such as means of payment including cash, application methods for support, and securing funds are currently under discussion. The city plans to decide as quickly as possible for the first round of support to be paid before the Lunar New Year holiday, as time is limited. The detailed recipients of the second round of emergency disaster relief funds have also not yet been finalized.
A city official said, "We will provide emergency disaster relief funds to groups that suffered damage while adhering to quarantine rules under social distancing," adding, "We will supplement the 'blind spots' of government and Gyeonggi Province support to minimize damage to citizens."
