Suwon Agricultural and Fishery Products Wholesale Market Seafood Passes Safety Inspections for Seven Years
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City announced on the 2nd that seafood products distributed at the Suwon Agricultural and Fishery Products Wholesale Market have been judged as "compliant" in safety inspections conducted over the past seven years.
The agricultural and fishery products wholesale market has conducted radioactivity and heavy metal inspections on 225 seafood products over 30 occasions since January 2014, and all have been judged as "compliant."
On February 23rd, the market collected samples of 10 types of seafood products (flounder, rockfish, frozen pollock, salted mackerel, white-legged shrimp, red scallop, golden apple snail, karei, blue crab, and croaker) and requested radioactivity safety inspections from the Gyeonggi Province Health and Environment Research Institute's Agricultural and Fishery Products Safety Testing Center.
The Gyeonggi Province Health and Environment Research Institute conducted inspections to determine whether radioactive substances such as iodine and cesium exceeded the standard threshold and notified the agricultural and fishery products wholesale market that "all 10 types of seafood products are safe."
An official from Suwon City's Agricultural and Fishery Products Wholesale Market Management Division stated, "We will do our best in food safety management so that citizens can consume seafood with confidence," and added, "We will inspect all agricultural and fishery products distributed at the wholesale market to build a trustworthy agricultural and fishery products wholesale market."
