Suwon's Haenggung-dong, Firefly Yeongmu Market, and Jangan Gate Turtle Market to be Transformed into 'Smart Shopping Districts'

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Suwon's Haenggung-dong, Firefly Yeongmu Market, and Jangan Gate Turtle Market have been selected for the '2021 Smart Pilot Shopping District Competition' organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Small Enterprise Market Promotion Agency.

The 'Smart Pilot Shopping District' is a project that enhances competitiveness among small business owners by introducing smart technology.

There are a 'complex model' that distributes both smart ordering and smart technology, and a 'general model' that distributes smart ordering. Haenggung-dong and Firefly Yeongmu Market were selected for the 'complex model', while Jangan Gate Turtle Market was selected for the 'general model'.

The pilot shopping districts in Haenggung-dong and Firefly Yeongmu Market, which were selected for the complex model, plan to introduce kiosk technology supporting contactless ordering and payment by September.

The pilot shopping district in Jangan Gate Turtle Market, which was selected for the general model, will introduce a smart order system that supports reservation and on-site order payment using mobile devices.

Jo Yi-hwa, chairperson of the Haenggung-dong Merchants Association, said, "Haenggung-dong is a place frequently visited by young consumers skilled in smart app usage," and added, "The introduction of smart technology will make it more convenient and enjoyable for consumers to explore the alleys of Haenggung-dong." He further stated, "We will not be satisfied with simply introducing the technology, but will work to discover content that showcases local characteristics and develop a sustainable commercial district."
