Suwon Fortress Illuminated by Light Media Art Starting September 19

The '2026 Suwon Fortress Media Art,' which brings Suwon Fortress to life with beautiful light, will be held every evening from September 19 to October 6.

The 2026 Suwon Fortress Media Art will run daily from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Hwaseomun Gate, Jangan Gate, and Jangan Park under the theme of 'New Light Shared Joy: Suwon Fortress, Blooming with Light Season 1 - I Have an Honored Guest.' The opening ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on September 19. 'I Have an Honored Guest' refers to the meaning 'I have a precious guest.'

The Suwon Fortress Media Art, now in its sixth year, has expanded performances and enriched experiential and stay-type content. It has also enlarged seating areas and established strategies to attract global tourists by operating pop-up shops in collaboration with global intellectual property (IP) brands.

At Hwaseomun Gate, the media art piece 'Light of Fate' will be screened three times daily (at 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m., and 9:30 p.m.). Diverse performances including light and sound, dance, firebird, and butterfly drone shows will also be held in connection with the media art.

At Jangan Gate, works containing stories related to Suwon Fortress will be presented under the theme of 'The King's Path - Together.' A grand media art production will be created through the harmonious combination of lighting, sound, and special effects.

Jangan Park will be developed as a media park. Interactive sound media art will be created using the Suwon Fortress walls, and a giant flower display and botanical healing zone will be operated using the forest space. Experience-type programs and photo zones where visitors can participate and enjoy will be created, and 'Haenggung Store Suwon Store,' a specialized market linked with the Suwomun Market and local business sectors, will be operated.

A Suwon City official stated, "Starting with the Suwon Fortress Media Art on the 19th, three major autumn festivals—the 63rd Suwon Fortress Cultural Festival (October 4-11) and King Jeongjo's Royal Procession (October 4)—will continue for 23 days," adding, "We hope many visitors will come to Suwon's autumn festivals to create wonderful memories."
