[Suwon Ilbo=Park No-hun Reporter] Yongin City announced on the 3rd that it has been selected as an outstanding organization (Group A, population over 550,000) for three consecutive years in Gyeonggi Province's 'Creating Clean Gyeonggi' initiative.

Following outstanding status in 2019 and commendable status in 2020, the city achieved outstanding status once again this year. With this selection, the city has secured an incentive of 100 million won.

'Creating Clean Gyeonggi' is a system where Gyeonggi Province divides 31 cities and counties into three groups (A~C) based on population size and evaluates the volume of household waste generation and waste reduction policies of each city and county. It has been implemented annually since 2019.

The city received high scores across the board for marking volume-based waste bags with English, Chinese, and pictograms to prevent illegal dumping by foreign residents, restricting the weight of volume-based waste bags, inspecting separate collection of transparent plastic bottles, and private sector environmental cleanup activities.

Additionally, the 'Zero Waste SNS Supporters' program, where citizens practice reducing waste generated in daily life and share it online, and the 'One-Zero day' initiative, which bans single-use products in city government offices on the 10th, 20th, and 30th of each month, also received high praise.

A city official stated, "We were able to achieve these results thanks to citizens who participated with small actions in their daily lives," and added, "Civil servants will take the lead in effectively reducing waste and increasing recycling rates."
