Giheung-gu, Yongin City Completes 'Pleasant Walking Path' Project in Tancheon and Singalcheon

[Suwon Ilbo=Park Nohun, Reporter] Giheung-gu, Yongin Special City has completed the 'Themed Riverside Walking Environment Creation Project' and 'Safe Riverside Slope Creation Project' in Tancheon and Singalcheon.

According to Giheung-gu on the 4th, the 'Themed Riverside Walking Environment Creation Project' is an initiative that plants trees and flowering plants to naturally screen boundaries in riverside embankment spaces and installs water-friendly facilities such as rest areas.

The riverside embankment space was secured through a major cleanup of approximately 2.0km of chronically illegally cultivated sections from the Third Bojeong Submerged Weir to Bojeong Bridge in Tancheon during 2021-2022.

This year, a pilot project was first promoted for approximately 0.5km of that section.

Trees and flowers planted in the pilot section include Chionanthus retusus, double-flowered cherry trees, Rhododendron eriocarpum, Spiraea japonica, creeping phlox, and Coreopsis tinctoria. Two rest areas were also installed to create spaces where citizens can enjoy walks.

The district plans to create spaces for citizens to stay and enjoy, such as plazas and vitality parks, in sections scheduled for future implementation.

The district also pursued the 'Safe Riverside Slope Creation Project' to prevent safety accidents such as collisions and falls among citizens using the river at night.

LED guide posts and railing lights were pilot-installed on riverside slopes and deck walking path sections around Giheung Station and Guseong Station, areas with high river usage.

A district official stated, "We have been able to return the Tancheon to citizens by cleaning it up from chronic illegal cultivation. We plan to create rivers where citizens can rest in the remaining sections," and added, "We will also review various environmental improvement projects for citizen safety when using rivers at night."
