Suwon City Shares Achievements of '2023 Community Building Resident Proposal Contest Project'
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jeong Jun-seong] Suwon Special City held the ‘2023 Community Building Resident Proposal Contest Project Achievement Sharing Session’ at the Suwon Convention Center on the 16th and presented awards to outstanding village communities.
The ‘Community Building Resident Proposal Contest Project’ is a program that supports residents in taking the lead in solving local issues and actively communicating for village development. This year, 49 communities were selected across three categories—▲Village Living Lab ▲Village Autonomy Activities ▲Community Revitalization—to carry out projects.
In the ‘Village Living Lab’ category, ▲Jidong Residents' Autonomy Council (Jidong, the eastern village practicing carbon neutrality - Properly Disposing of Food Waste) ▲Gwonseon 1-dong Residents' Autonomy Council (‘Food Upcycling’ using local resources) ▲Pajang-dong Residents' Autonomy Council (Our Neighborhood Mini Fire Station) were selected as outstanding village communities, and in ‘Village Autonomy Activities,’ ▲Maetan 3-dong Residents' Autonomy Council (Maeyeoul Eoullim Center, Beautiful When Met Up Close) was selected.
In the ‘Community Revitalization’ category, ▲Yeonghwa City Farmers (Creating a Village Garden in Yeonghwa-dong) △Group Loving Maehyang-dong (Maehyang-dong Flower Seed Bank) ▲5070 Happy Life (Creating a Mentally Healthy Village) were selected as outstanding village communities.
The achievement sharing session that day featured presentations on the progress and achievements of village community projects, case presentations by outstanding village communities, an in-depth quiz on the community building contest project, opening remarks by Suwon Special City Mayor Lee Jae-jun, this year's ‘Hope Lantern’ lighting ceremony, a talk concert with Mayor Lee Jae-jun, and the awarding of outstanding village communities.
Meanwhile, the Suwon Urban Corporation held an open call from January to February for communities to participate in the three project categories of the ‘Community Building Resident Proposal Contest Project.’ The 49 communities selected through document review and expert evaluation carried out the projects.
Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun said, “I believe village communities play a central role in solving urban problems,” and added, “It was because there were citizens who believed in and protected the value of community even in difficult circumstances that we were able to achieve the results we shared today.” He continued, “We will quietly support the city so that residents become the main protagonists.”
