Suwon City Creates Second Public Parking Lot in Seryou 2-dong to Address Severe Parking Shortage
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] The 'Seryou 2-dong Second Public Parking Lot,' capable of accommodating 80 vehicles, has been completed in Seryou 2-dong, Suwon, which has been suffering from severe parking shortages.
Suwon Special Metropolitan City held a 'Seryou 2-dong Second Public Parking Lot Completion Ceremony' at the Seryou 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center on the 21st.
The Seryou 2-dong Second Public Parking Lot (located at 1003-7, Seryou-dong) has a total floor area of 2,317 square meters and can accommodate 80 vehicles at ground level. Land compensation was completed in July, construction began in October, and the facility was completed in December.
The area around Hanju Children's Park, where the parking lot is located, is densely packed with residential buildings and suffers from insufficient parking space. According to a 2020 parking supply and demand survey, the parking supply rate was low, making this location a high-priority site for development. Visitors to nearby Seji-ro commercial district and the Seryou 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center also faced parking difficulties.
Beginning January 1, 2024, the lot will be free for anyone to use during daytime hours, and will operate under a resident priority parking system at night.
Around 80 attendees, including Kim Hyun-soo, First Vice Mayor of Suwon Special Metropolitan City, Kim Ki-jeong, Speaker of Suwon City Council, Lee Jae-sik, Vice Speaker, Heo Jung-moon, President of Suwon Urban Development Corporation, Gyeonggi Province council members, and local residents, participated in the ceremony.
First Vice Mayor Kim Hyun-soo stated, "The completion of the Seryou 2-dong public parking lot will help alleviate residents' inconvenience to some extent," and added, "We will actively pursue parking lot development projects to increase parking spaces."
